Medically Induced Estrogen Suppression

Meaning

Medically induced estrogen suppression is a clinical strategy involving the administration of pharmacological agents to intentionally reduce the circulating or active levels of estrogen in the body. This intervention is a cornerstone treatment for hormone-sensitive conditions, most notably estrogen-receptor-positive breast cancer, but is also utilized in endometriosis and precocious puberty. The goal is to deprive target tissues of the necessary hormonal stimulus for growth or proliferation.
