MCT Oil

Meaning

MCT Oil, an acronym for Medium-Chain Triglyceride Oil, represents a specific class of saturated fatty acids distinguished by their shorter carbon chain length, typically ranging from 6 to 12 carbon atoms. Unlike longer-chain triglycerides found in most dietary fats, MCTs are rapidly digested and absorbed, offering a distinct metabolic pathway. Common dietary sources include coconut oil and palm kernel oil, from which MCT oil is concentrated to provide a higher proportion of these specific fatty acids, primarily caprylic (C8) and capric (C10) acids.
