Master Control Boards

Meaning

Master Control Boards is a clinical metaphor used to describe the primary neuroendocrine and metabolic centers that exert overarching regulatory influence over the entire body’s physiology. These include the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and the thyroid gland, alongside key metabolic regulators like the liver and pancreas. These centers function as the central processing units, interpreting systemic signals and issuing the necessary hormonal and metabolic commands to maintain dynamic homeostasis. Dysfunction in one of these “boards” can cascade into widespread, seemingly unrelated symptoms throughout the body.
