Master Clock Recalibration

Meaning

Master Clock Recalibration is the clinical process of intentionally resetting or optimizing the function of the Suprachiasmatic Nucleus (SCN), the primary biological pacemaker located in the hypothalamus, to synchronize the body’s circadian rhythms with the external light-dark cycle and the individual’s lifestyle. This therapeutic strategy is essential for correcting circadian misalignment, which is often a consequence of modern living, jet lag, or shift work. Successful recalibration is crucial for restoring the optimal diurnal patterns of hormone secretion, body temperature, and sleep-wake cycles, thereby improving metabolic and hormonal health.
