Masked Hypertension

Meaning

Masked hypertension describes a clinical condition where an individual’s blood pressure readings are consistently within the normal range when measured in a healthcare setting, such as a physician’s office, but are elevated during measurements taken outside of this environment, typically at home or through ambulatory monitoring. This phenomenon represents the inverse of the more commonly recognized “white-coat hypertension,” where office readings are high but out-of-office readings are normal.
