Mandibular Growth

Meaning

Mandibular Growth refers to the developmental and adaptive process involving the increase in size and change in shape of the mandible, or lower jawbone. This process is primarily driven by genetic programming during childhood and adolescence but remains subject to hormonal and mechanical influences throughout life. Hormonal factors, particularly growth hormone, insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), and androgens, play a significant role in the proliferation and ossification of the mandibular condyle’s cartilage. Clinically, mandibular structure is a key visual indicator of overall hormonal and developmental health.
