Mammary Tissue Proliferation

Meaning

Mammary tissue proliferation is the process of increased cell division and growth within the epithelial and stromal components of the breast, leading to an expansion of the mammary gland structure. This physiological process is a normal, cyclical event in females, most notably occurring during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle and dramatically during pregnancy, entirely driven by fluctuating levels of sex hormones. Clinically, abnormal or excessive proliferation is a key risk factor for mammary pathology. Monitoring this process is a vital component of women’s health.
