Male Hormonal Axis

Meaning

The Male Hormonal Axis, specifically the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal (HPG) axis, is the central neuroendocrine control system regulating male reproductive function and androgen production. This intricate feedback loop involves the hypothalamus, which releases Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH); the pituitary gland, which secretes Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH); and the testes, which produce testosterone and sperm. The precise, pulsatile communication within this axis is essential for maintaining optimal testosterone levels, fertility, energy, and overall vitality throughout the male lifespan. Dysregulation at any point in this axis can lead to clinical hypogonadism.
