Male Endocrine Function

Meaning

Male Endocrine Function encompasses the coordinated physiological activities of the glands and hormones that specifically regulate male health, reproduction, and systemic metabolism, with a central focus on the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal (HPG) axis. This function is primarily characterized by the pulsatile secretion of GnRH, the subsequent release of LH and FSH, and the resultant testicular production of testosterone and inhibin. Optimal function ensures the maintenance of secondary sexual characteristics, bone density, muscle mass, libido, and healthy spermatogenesis. Dysfunction often manifests as clinical hypogonadism or age-related andropause.
