Magistral Formula

Meaning

A Magistral Formula, commonly and synonymously referred to as a compounded preparation, is a medicinal product prepared extemporaneously by a licensed pharmacist specifically according to a valid, individualized medical prescription for a single patient. This preparation is meticulously tailored to address the unique therapeutic requirements of that patient, such as a precise, non-standard dosage strength, a specialized combination of multiple active ingredients, or an alternative, patient-preferred delivery system not commercially manufactured. Compounded bioidentical hormone preparations are frequently categorized as magistral formulas.
