Macimorelin Test

Meaning

The Macimorelin test is a definitive, clinically validated diagnostic procedure used to assess adult growth hormone deficiency (AGHD) by measuring the pituitary gland’s capacity to release Growth Hormone (GH) in response to a specific oral pharmacological stimulus. This test utilizes the synthetic ghrelin mimetic, macimorelin, to provoke GH secretion, offering a convenient and less cumbersome alternative to the traditional, insulin-induced hypoglycemia test. The test result provides an objective, endocrinological measure of somatotroph function.
