Luteinizing Hormone Suppression

Meaning

Luteinizing Hormone Suppression is the clinical process of intentionally reducing the secretion of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) from the anterior pituitary gland, often achieved through the administration of exogenous sex steroids or specific pharmacological agents. LH is a critical gonadotropin that stimulates the gonads to produce testosterone in men and to trigger ovulation and stimulate corpus luteum formation in women. In hormonal health, this suppression is a common goal in male hormone replacement therapy to manage endogenous testosterone production and prevent testicular atrophy.
