Luteinizing Hormone Secretion

Meaning

Luteinizing Hormone (LH) Secretion is the pulsatile release of the glycoprotein hormone LH from the anterior pituitary gland, which serves as a primary trophic signal to the gonads in both males and females. In men, LH stimulates the Leydig cells in the testes to synthesize and secrete testosterone, while in women, the LH surge triggers ovulation and supports the corpus luteum’s progesterone production. This precise, rhythmic secretion is fundamental to reproductive function and the maintenance of sex steroid levels.
