Luteinizing Hormone Receptor

Meaning

The Luteinizing Hormone Receptor (LHR) is a crucial G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) predominantly situated on the surface of the gonadal cells—specifically the Leydig cells in the testes and the theca and granulosa cells in the ovaries. This receptor serves as the essential molecular target that receives the signal from Luteinizing Hormone (LH) secreted by the pituitary gland. Its activation is the indispensable step that translates a central nervous system signal into the production of sex steroid hormones.
