Luteinizing Hormone Pulsatility

Meaning

Luteinizing Hormone Pulsatility refers to the characteristic, intermittent, and rhythmic release of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) from the anterior pituitary gland into the bloodstream, occurring in discrete, regular bursts rather than a continuous stream. The precise frequency and amplitude of these LH pulses are tightly regulated by the pulsatile secretion of Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamus. This specific pulsatile pattern is critical for stimulating gonadal steroidogenesis and is a fundamental determinant of reproductive function in both males and females. Disruption of this rhythm indicates pathology.
