Luteinizing Hormone Fluctuation

Meaning

Luteinizing Hormone Fluctuation refers to the dynamic, pulsatile secretory pattern of the gonadotropic hormone LH, released from the anterior pituitary gland, which is essential for reproductive function in both sexes. In females, this fluctuation includes the critical mid-cycle surge that triggers ovulation and the stimulation of corpus luteum formation, while in males, it drives the Leydig cells to produce testosterone. Disruptions in the frequency or amplitude of these fluctuations can signal underlying pathology of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis.
