Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms

Meaning

Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms, commonly abbreviated as LUTS, refer to a collection of bothersome voiding and storage symptoms originating from the bladder, urethra, and prostate in males. These symptoms include increased urinary frequency, urgency, nocturia, hesitancy, weak stream, straining, and a sensation of incomplete bladder emptying. LUTS represent a symptomatic complex indicating dysfunction within the lower urinary tract, rather than a singular disease entity.
