Low T3 Syndrome

Meaning

Low T3 Syndrome, or Non-Thyroidal Illness Syndrome (NTIS), describes reduced serum triiodothyronine (T3) levels in individuals with severe acute or chronic non-thyroidal conditions. Despite low T3, thyroxine (T4) and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) remain normal or low-normal, signifying an adaptive metabolic response, not primary thyroid dysfunction, to conserve energy.
