Low-Grade Chronic Inflammation

Meaning

Low-Grade Chronic Inflammation (LGCI) is a persistent, systemic elevation of inflammatory markers, such as C-reactive protein and various cytokines, that is typically subclinical, lacking the overt signs of acute inflammation. This smoldering, low-intensity immune activation is a fundamental driver of numerous age-related diseases and metabolic dysfunction, including insulin resistance, cardiovascular disease, and neurodegeneration. In the hormonal health context, LGCI is intimately linked to adipose tissue dysfunction and the dysregulation of the HPA axis.
