Local Inflammation

Meaning

Local inflammation is a critical, innate biological response characterized by the immediate, protective reaction of vascularized tissue to injury, infection, or irritation, confined to a specific site. This process involves the localized release of pro-inflammatory mediators, resulting in the classic clinical signs of redness, swelling, heat, and pain. While acute local inflammation is vital for healing, chronic low-grade inflammation, even when localized, can disrupt the function of nearby endocrine tissues and contribute to systemic hormonal imbalances and disease progression.
