Liver Cirrhosis

Meaning

Liver cirrhosis is the irreversible, late-stage chronic hepatic pathology defined by extensive fibrosis, which is the pathological replacement of normal, functional liver tissue with non-functional scar tissue, leading to widespread structural nodule formation. This profound pathological process results in severely compromised liver function, including impaired detoxification, dramatically reduced synthesis of critical proteins, and the development of portal hypertension. Clinically, this severe hepatic dysfunction significantly compromises hormonal health due to the liver’s central and indispensable role in the metabolism and clearance of steroid hormones.
