Lipoproteins

Meaning

Lipoproteins are complex particles composed of a hydrophobic lipid core, primarily triglycerides and cholesterol esters, surrounded by a hydrophilic shell of phospholipids, free cholesterol, and specialized proteins known as apolipoproteins. These intricate structures are essential for the systemic transport of lipids, which are otherwise insoluble in the aqueous environment of blood plasma, ensuring their efficient delivery to and removal from various tissues throughout the body.
