Lipoprotein

Meaning

A lipoprotein is a complex biochemical particle composed of both lipids and proteins, serving as a vital transport vehicle for hydrophobic lipids, such as triglycerides and cholesterol, through the aqueous environment of the blood plasma. These spherical assemblies feature a central core of neutral lipids surrounded by an outer shell of phospholipids, free cholesterol, and specific apolipoproteins, which dictate their function and destination.
