Lipoprotein Transport

Meaning

The complex physiological process by which lipids, including cholesterol and triglycerides, are packaged with specialized proteins (apolipoproteins) into spherical particles called lipoproteins for circulation throughout the bloodstream. This transport mechanism is essential because lipids are hydrophobic and cannot travel freely in the aqueous plasma. It is a key determinant of cardiovascular risk and metabolic health.
