Lipoprotein Particles

Meaning

Lipoprotein particles are complex spherical structures composed of a hydrophobic lipid core, primarily triglycerides and cholesterol esters, surrounded by a hydrophilic outer layer of phospholipids, free cholesterol, and specialized proteins known as apolipoproteins. These particles function as the primary transport vehicles for lipids within the aqueous environment of the blood plasma, enabling the systemic delivery of essential fats to cells and tissues throughout the body for energy, structural integrity, and hormone synthesis.
