Lipoprotein

Meaning

A lipoprotein is a complex biochemical particle composed of a core of hydrophobic lipids, primarily triglycerides and cholesterol esters, surrounded by a shell of hydrophilic phospholipids, free cholesterol, and apolipoproteins. These particles are physiologically essential for the systemic transport of lipids through the aqueous environment of the bloodstream, and their different classes, such as LDL and HDL, are critical clinical markers reflecting cardiovascular risk and overall metabolic health, which is intricately linked to hormonal status.
