Lipophilic Hormone Absorption

Meaning

Lipophilic hormone absorption is the process by which fat-soluble hormones, such as steroid hormones like testosterone and estrogen, are taken up and transferred across biological membranes, typically from the gastrointestinal tract into the bloodstream or across the skin barrier. Because of their non-polar chemical structure, these hormones readily diffuse across the lipid bilayer of cell membranes. This absorption efficiency is a critical factor in the bioavailability and clinical effectiveness of oral or transdermal hormone replacement therapies.
