Limbic System

Meaning

The limbic system is a complex, evolutionarily ancient set of interconnected brain structures located deep within the cerebrum, which is fundamentally responsible for processing emotions, memory formation, motivation, and linking these functions to endocrine and autonomic responses. Key components include the hippocampus, amygdala, and hypothalamus. This system serves as a critical interface between the cognitive and emotional brain and the physiological regulation of the body.
