Light Cueing

Meaning

Light cueing is the intentional use of specific light spectrums and timing to entrain and optimize the body’s master biological clock, the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), and the resulting circadian rhythms. This precise environmental input serves as a potent non-pharmacological modulator of neuroendocrine function, particularly impacting the secretion of hormones like melatonin and cortisol. Effective light cueing is fundamental for regulating sleep-wake cycles, mood stability, metabolic health, and optimizing energy production. It is a core strategy in chronotherapy.
