Ligament Integrity refers to the structural soundness, tensile strength, and functional resilience of the dense connective tissues that connect bones to one another across joints. Optimal integrity is dependent on the robust synthesis and cross-linking of collagen and elastin fibers, processes which are highly sensitive to hormonal signals, particularly growth hormone, insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), and sex steroids. Maintaining this integrity is crucial for joint stability, injury prevention, and sustained physical mobility throughout the lifespan. Declining integrity is a significant factor in age-related musculoskeletal vulnerability.
