LHCGR

Meaning

LHCGR is the clinically relevant acronym for the Luteinizing Hormone/Choriogonadotropin Receptor, a high-affinity transmembrane receptor belonging to the G-protein coupled receptor superfamily. This receptor is functionally crucial for mediating the biological actions of both Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and the structurally similar human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). Its proper function is indispensable for steroidogenesis and reproductive processes in both the male and female gonads. Genetic mutations or functional desensitization of LHCGR can lead to significant reproductive and endocrine disorders.
