LH and FSH Production

Meaning

LH and FSH production refers to the synthesis and secretion of the gonadotropic hormones, Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH), by the anterior pituitary gland in the brain. These two glycoprotein hormones are essential regulators of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis, controlling reproductive function in both males and females. The pulsatile release of LH and FSH is precisely regulated by Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamus and is subject to negative and positive feedback from gonadal steroids and peptides. Maintaining appropriate LH and FSH levels is vital for fertility, gamete maturation, and sex hormone synthesis.
