Leydig Cell Stimulation

Meaning

Leydig cell stimulation refers to the physiological or pharmacological process of activating the Leydig cells, which are interstitial cells located within the testes, to increase their primary function of synthesizing and secreting testosterone. Physiologically, this process is driven by Luteinizing Hormone (LH) released from the anterior pituitary gland. Clinically, stimulation can be achieved using exogenous gonadotropins or selective agents to treat hypogonadism or to maintain endogenous testosterone production during certain therapies.
