Leydig Cell Dormancy

Meaning

Leydig cell dormancy describes a state of functional quiescence or inactivity in the Leydig cells of the testes, the primary producers of testosterone in males. This physiological state is most notably observed in prepubertal boys, where the Leydig cells are present but not actively secreting high levels of testosterone. It can also refer to the suppression of Leydig cell function in adult males due to external factors, such as the administration of exogenous androgens in replacement therapy.
