Leuprolide

Meaning

Leuprolide is a synthetic analog of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). This pharmaceutical agent initially acts as an agonist, stimulating GnRH receptors in the pituitary gland. However, its continuous, non-pulsatile administration subsequently leads to desensitization and downregulation of these receptors, resulting in a significant suppression of pituitary gonadotropin secretion.
