Leuprolide

Meaning

Leuprolide is a synthetic peptide medication classified as a Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH) agonist, primarily used in clinical practice to suppress the production of sex hormones, specifically testosterone and estrogen. Its therapeutic applications include the management of hormone-sensitive cancers, such as prostate cancer and breast cancer, as well as the treatment of endometriosis and precocious puberty. Administered by injection, it effectively creates a state of temporary chemical castration by desensitizing the pituitary gland to GnRH.
