Leptin Sensitivity Restoration

Meaning

Leptin sensitivity restoration is the clinical objective of re-establishing the proper responsiveness of the hypothalamus to the satiety-signaling hormone leptin. Leptin, secreted by adipose tissue, informs the brain about the size of the body’s long-term energy stores; however, chronic excess body fat often leads to a state of leptin resistance, where the brain no longer registers the signal. Restoration aims to overcome this resistance, allowing the brain to correctly perceive energy sufficiency and reduce the drive for overconsumption. This is a primary goal in managing obesity and metabolic syndrome.
