Leptin Resistance Stress

Meaning

Leptin resistance stress is a complex physiological state where chronic psychological or physiological stress contributes to the failure of the central nervous system to appropriately respond to the satiety hormone leptin. Leptin, normally secreted by adipose tissue to signal energy sufficiency, becomes ineffective at the hypothalamic level. This resistance leads to a perceived state of starvation in the brain, driving increased appetite, reduced energy expenditure, and a persistent push toward weight gain, compounded by the metabolic effects of chronic stress.
