Left Ventricular Volume

Meaning

Left Ventricular Volume refers to the precise quantity of blood contained within the left ventricle of the heart at specific points in the cardiac cycle, serving as a fundamental metric of cardiac function. Clinically, the most significant measurements are the End-Diastolic Volume (EDV), representing the maximum filling volume just before contraction, and the End-Systolic Volume (ESV), representing the residual volume after contraction. These volumes are essential for calculating the Ejection Fraction, a widely used index of the heart’s pumping efficiency.
