Left Ventricular Remodeling

Meaning

Left ventricular remodeling is the adaptive, yet frequently pathological, process of structural and functional alteration that occurs in the heart’s main pumping chamber in response to chronic hemodynamic stressors, such including hypertension, valvular disease, or persistent hormonal imbalance. This complex process involves significant changes in the size of cardiomyocytes, the deposition of interstitial collagen, and an overall modification of the ventricular geometry. In the context of hormonal health, chronic, unchecked endocrine signals can severely exacerbate this remodeling, leading to progressive impairment of cardiac function and eventual heart failure. Clinical monitoring is aimed at early detection and therapeutic reversal of adverse remodeling.
