Left Ventricular Mass

Meaning

Left Ventricular Mass (LVM) quantifies the total weight of the muscular wall of the heart’s main pumping chamber, the left ventricle. In the context of hormonal health, LVM is a critical biomarker, as excessive mass, or left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), is often associated with long-term hormonal and metabolic dysregulation. Hormones like growth hormone, insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), and even thyroid hormones, when imbalanced, can exert hypertrophic effects on the myocardium. Monitoring LVM is therefore an essential component of comprehensive cardiovascular and endocrine risk assessment.
