Left Ventricular Hypertrophy

Meaning

Left Ventricular Hypertrophy (LVH) is a pathological adaptation characterized by the thickening of the muscular wall of the heart’s main pumping chamber, the left ventricle, beyond normal dimensions. While often a response to chronic hemodynamic overload like hypertension, endocrine imbalances significantly contribute to its development and progression. Elevated circulating mineralocorticoids or prolonged exposure to high cortisol levels can directly stimulate myocardial remodeling pathways. Recognizing LVH in a hormonal context prompts investigation into underlying endocrine drivers beyond simple blood pressure control.
