Left Ventricular Dysfunction

Meaning

Left ventricular dysfunction is a clinical condition characterized by the impaired ability of the heart’s left ventricle, the main pumping chamber, to effectively contract (systolic dysfunction) or relax and fill with blood (diastolic dysfunction). This impairment reduces the heart’s overall cardiac output, leading to symptoms like fatigue and fluid retention, and is a significant precursor to heart failure. Hormonal imbalances, particularly thyroid dysfunction and chronic stress-induced catecholamine excess, can directly contribute to or exacerbate this myocardial compromise.
