LEADER Trial

Meaning

The LEADER Trial, formally known as Liraglutide Effect and Action in Diabetes: Evaluation of Cardiovascular Outcome Results, was a large-scale, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial. It investigated the cardiovascular safety and efficacy of liraglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus who had a high risk of cardiovascular events. This study provided crucial evidence regarding the broader impact of certain antidiabetic medications beyond glucose control.
