LDL Cholesterol

Meaning

LDL Cholesterol, or Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol, is one of the five major groups of lipoproteins that transport cholesterol, a necessary structural component of all cell membranes, throughout the bloodstream. It is often clinically referred to as “bad cholesterol” because high concentrations are strongly associated with the formation of atherosclerotic plaques in arterial walls. Optimal management of LDL levels is a critical component of cardiovascular and metabolic health.
