Lateralization Index

Meaning

The Lateralization Index (LI) is a critical calculated ratio derived from Adrenal Vein Sampling (AVS) results, which is used to quantify the relative excess of aldosterone secretion between the two adrenal glands. This index is essential for determining if the source of autonomous aldosterone production is predominantly unilateral, a key distinction for guiding definitive surgical treatment. A clear lateralization is the primary indicator for considering adrenalectomy.
