Kisspeptin Cascade Activation

Meaning

Kisspeptin cascade activation describes the initiation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis via the potent neuropeptide kisspeptin, which is a master regulator of reproductive function and puberty onset. Kisspeptin-secreting neurons in the hypothalamus release this peptide, which acts on its receptor, GPR54, to stimulate the pulsatile release of Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH). This upstream activation is the essential biological signal that drives the subsequent secretion of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) from the pituitary, ultimately regulating gonadal hormone production.
