KEEPS Trial

Meaning

The KEEPS Trial, or the Kronos Early Estrogen Prevention Study, was a pivotal, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial designed to investigate the effects of menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) when initiated shortly after the onset of menopause. This study was launched to address critical questions about the “timing hypothesis” that arose from the Women’s Health Initiative, which suggested that earlier intervention might confer cardiovascular protection. KEEPS provided essential data on the impact of different hormone formulations on subclinical atherosclerosis, bone density, and quality of life in recently menopausal women.
