K Complex Analysis

Meaning

K Complex Analysis is the detailed examination of K-complexes, which are large, single-cycle, high-amplitude brain waves observed during Stage 2 (N2) of non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep on an electroencephalogram (EEG). These transient neural events serve a dual function: they are spontaneous markers of sleep stability and they are an evoked response to external stimuli, acting as a mechanism to protect the sleeping brain from waking up. Clinically, their frequency and morphology provide insights into sleep depth and central nervous system integrity.
