JAK2-STAT3 Pathway

Meaning

The Janus Kinase 2 (JAK2) – Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 3 (STAT3) pathway is a crucial, non-receptor tyrosine kinase intracellular signaling cascade that mediates the effects of various cytokines, growth factors, and specific hormones, particularly those essential for hematopoiesis, immune response, and cellular proliferation. This pathway acts as a rapid and direct conduit from the cell membrane to the nucleus, effectively translating diverse extracellular signals into specific changes in gene expression. Aberrant or constitutive activation of this pathway is frequently implicated in chronic inflammatory diseases and several endocrine-related malignancies.
