JAK2-STAT Signaling

Meaning

JAK2-STAT Signaling is a crucial intracellular signal transduction pathway that relays information from extracellular growth factors and cytokines, including many hormones, directly to the cell nucleus to modulate gene expression. This pathway is initiated by the Janus Kinase 2 (JAK2) enzyme, which phosphorylates and activates Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription (STAT) proteins. In endocrinology, it is integral to the actions of prolactin, growth hormone, and various inflammatory mediators, influencing cell proliferation, differentiation, and survival.
